The Colonial Inn & Creamery receives mixed reviews, with recent guests citing cleanliness issues, operational problems, and a generally unappealing atmosphere. While the location is a positive, significant concerns regarding room conditions and lack of service detract from the overall experience.
Rather spartan room, but very clean. Manager was VERY helpful. Off season, but made sure heat worked, TV worked, and we had extra blankets. Emergency stop in the middle of an ice storm. What a lifesaver!
Just stayed while working in the area . Room was cleaned with bleach so very sterile. Everything is white and there is no decor . The heat didn’t work so it was damp and left a film on the walls and floor which went away after an hour of heat from the provided space heater . When asked where I stayed by locals the response was “ Oh no don’t ever stay there again “ . The creamery was closed for the season as well as the wood fire pizza . Other than location and charm it needs work .
The location and the safety was the only thing good about this room. It was part of the main so I felt safe as a solo traveler. But actually checking into the hotel was difficult, I had to do everything online and called two people before one of them called me back to let me in, so very slow process. I waited in the lobby for quite some time. Then ended up back at my car waiting until someone called me back so I could go in and check in. I could not get the TV on, the remote control seem to be dead so I turned it on with a button on the TV but I couldn’t do anything else. So I shut it back up. I called that same number a couple of times to say the room was freezing cold. No one ever called me back. I looked in every closet in every drawer and could not find any blankets, so I had to sleep in layers of my clothes and my nose was frozen. I only slept a couple hours and could not get warm so I left and went out to my car and warmed up with the seat heaters. I would definitely not come again, I hardly got any sleep. I just wish I could have reached help for the room situation. I definitely would not recommend.
AVOID AT ALL COSTS!!! What was supposed to be a 4 night stay turned into a 1 night stay due to the gross conditions of the “inn”. First room had a broken shower handle that rendered the shower unusable. Moved to second room, where the air conditioning was not working. Both rooms smelled awful, likely due to 30+ year old AC units that have likely never been cleaned. The floors were FILTHY and we had to keep our shoes on in the room. Shoddy remodel. Rooms were a good size and the location was excellent. Even with the fantastic location, you couldn’t PAY me to stay there again.
The Creamery was closed for the season. No Colonial Inn "hotel" staff was seen. Check in was a code on the outside door and on the room door. The room in the main house was tiny and thrown together with odds and ends of discarded furniture. The bed sagged deeply in the middle. The carpeting was old, dirty and stained. There was a rickety floor lamp that was unusable due to a plug with bent prongs. We stayed two nights. There was no housekeeping.
We stayed a single night in a two room queen suite in the main building. Not far to walk to the lake or shops/restaurants. Self-check in was easy and worked as advertised. The tub, sink, and toilet were clean so that was good. Everything else was ROUGH. Water stains on the ceilings, torn up carpet, peeling wall paper, holes in the ceiling (no smoke alarm), hairs in the sheets, and gauzy curtains on windows with incredibly bright parking lot lights shining through. Honestly, it was pretty horrifying. I got maybe 3 hours of sleep because of the light, never mind being grossed out by the room. For $170, this felt like a ripoff.
