Seneca Lodge is a historic property with a strong focus on its racing heritage, particularly its connection to F1. Recent reviews highlight the bar and tavern as a unique destination, while some guests praise the staff and food. However, significant concerns regarding cleanliness, outdated rooms, and poor customer service have emerged.
The truest and best bar in Watkins Glen. An institution. An inspiration. Nothing compares. If you can only go to one place, this is the place.
Rustic, but FUN. The bar is especially cool. Food/service is very good. Lots of history here. GO!
Great place for dinner and a get away. Saturday ribbed night is real tasty ? and they have a great salad bar.
Seneca lodge is my go to place to stay at the lake. There's many options available from motel rooms to cabins and even some larger family rentals. It's really convenient having the restaurant and bar right at the lodge too. The staff is always wonderful and the prices are fair.
We heard about this place through a racing podcast we listen to and once we researched it more about the history it has in the racing world, we knew we had to go! We did NOT eat at the restaurant or stay at the Lodge but only went for a few beers at the Tavern which is where the magic is! Our bartender was the sweetest and gave us a "tour" of the walls behind the bar and shared with us the history of the property. She also put on a movie for us (and other patrons) highlighting some footage from the 70s and the drivers/teams that would frequent the Tavern! If you are a racing fan, especially F1, you gotta stop in and take in this gem!
Only had breakfast. A bit expensive. Don't bother with the soy toast. Fresh fruit was good. Under our table was full of crumbs. Waitress said " I guess they didn't sweep up very well last night"!
We had an impromptu stay in Watkins Glen on our way home to NC. We absolutely loved the hospitality of the staff at Seneca Lodge. The room was quaint and clean. The food at the Lodge restaurant was amazing, both for supper and breakfast. Can't recommend the cinnamon raisin French toast enough! Our server, Joyce, was attentive and friendly. We will definitely be back!
Barbara was so rude when we arrived. She did not greet us or even look up from the computer as we tried to check in with her. We did not feel welcomed or like most of the staff cared about anyone. The rooms were outdated and too expensive for what they offered. The ac wasn’t working correctly, and they didn’t seem too busy but wouldn’t offer any other rooms with a properly working ac. Honestly just bad business practice. Too expensive for bad quality. I would not recommend. There are cheaper, nicer options around than this low rate motel.
This was by far the worst hotel experience I’ve had in over 15 years of traveling. The hotel is located between two small roads, so we did not expect much noise. However, our lodge faced one of the roads that turned out to be used for car racing throughout the entire night. While our child, luckily, is a deep sleeper and managed to rest, both my husband and I were awake the entire night due to the constant noise. The condition of the room made things even worse. Everything inside appeared to be 50+ years old and poorly maintained. The bed creaked loudly with even the slightest movement, making restful sleep impossible even without the road noise. The room also carried a musty odor, reminiscent of an abandoned building. The air conditioner was ancient, extremely noisy, and essentially unusable. We had to turn it off just to avoid the additional disturbance. To make matters worse, the hotel was fully booked, so we had no option to change rooms. Stay away from this place if you want to enjoy your trip.
Avoid this hotel—it’s not worth your time or money. Do yourself a favor and book elsewhere. There are many better and more affordable options within 30 minutes of the area. We stayed here for race weekend, thinking a lodge-style place would be charming. It wasn’t. The room was extremely basic—lacking standard amenities like a fridge, microwave, or even nightstands on both sides of the bed. At $140 per night plus $16 in taxes, it felt overpriced for what we received. When we arrived, the woman at the front desk, Barbra, was noticeably unfriendly. She didn’t greet us, make eye contact, or seem remotely welcoming. We had to ask if check-in was done at the bar before she even acknowledged us. The room itself had several issues: • The door lock didn’t work properly. • The room smelled like cigars due to neighbors smoking on the porch (which is allowed). • The air conditioning didn’t function. • Outlets were hard to reach, and the walls and ceilings were covered in bug stains and mosquitoes. • There were bugs inside the room, likely because the door opens directly to the outside. No traps or efforts to manage them. Staff refused to take responsibility for any of the problems, citing policy and offering no solutions or compensation. It was clear they prioritize profits over guest experience and are unwilling to make things right. Refunds or even partial refunds are off the table—no matter the circumstance. We ended up leaving early and will never return. I strongly recommend looking elsewhere. This place is poorly managed, overpriced, and operated by people who clearly don’t value their guests.
